You will be surprised.. These are the 10 strangest laws in Britain

You may be paying taxes and speeding regularly, but you may be breaking the law in the UK without knowing it.

Britain has been very slow to repeal laws that had been in place in the past, which no longer correspond to the requirements of the present age.

According to The Telegraph, here are 10 of the weirdest laws in the UK that are still in effect today:

1- Do not walk if you have a ladder in your home:

British law says you can't walk home if you bought a ladder or a piece of wood from a shop.

Walking on sidewalks is only permitted when the ladder holder is walking towards his car. Fines for breaching the law can reach up to £500.

The law currently only applies to the UK capital, London.

2. Don’t fly a kite on a snowy day

UK law states that no one is allowed to fly a kite if it could be dangerous to pedestrians and residents, or if they are using snow-covered slopes or roads.

Fines can go up to £500.

3. Do not wear military uniforms at parties

If a friend invites you to a fancy dress party, be careful not to wear military uniform. Illusory sailors and military uniforms will be signed under a law enacted in 1906 that forbids anyone from wearing military uniforms, even for festival purposes.

Breaking the law can lead to up to 30 days in jail, and in 2009 a Briton was fined for breaking the law.

4- Drink at the bar

Drunk driving is known to be illegal in the UK and there is no mandatory requirement for civil servants to serve you while intoxicated.

But you may not know that drinking alcohol in any public place, including pubs, is punishable under UK law.

The 1872 law states that "any person who is found drunk in any public place or in any public place, whether in a building or not, will be punished". The fine can be up to £200.

5- Ring the bell and run

If your kids love this annoying game then you should ban them. British law from 1854 made it a crime to run away after ringing the bell, as it caused inconvenience to residents, and was punishable by a fine of up to £500.

6. Drive the pigs out of the house

British law punishes anyone who leaves pigs on the street and requires every Briton to build a small fence around their farm to keep the pigs out, with fines of up to a thousand pounds.

7- Clean the doormat after 8pm

If your doormat is dirty, don't clean it after eight o'clock. Under UK law, it is an offense to walk on a carpet in the street after 8pm and you will be fined £500.

8. Ask strangers for coins

If you park and find that you don't have coins to pay for parking, don't ask a stranger for help.

English law begs and punishes it.

9- Do not ask a moving taxi to stop for you.

British law stipulates that taxi drivers must pick up customers at designated locations and must not stop anyone on the way.

10- Processed Salmon

You should not buy salmon in the UK if you know it was caught illegally.
